The UK's Norwich Heritage Economic and Regeneration Trust (HEART) has selected aerial photography from GeoPerspectives to form the centrepiece of a public exhibition. The aerial images are part of HEART’s “Great and Good” project display and provide an up-to-date bird’s eye view of 12 iconic buildings within the historic city. The display forms part of ‘Earth Event’, an eight-week programme of environmentally themed activities showcasing local organisations. This event has been timed to complement the arrival of Yann Arthus-Bertrand’s awe inspiring ‘Earth from the Air’ collection of 120 large scale photographs of astonishing natural landscapes.
Norwich HEART is a unique charity specialising in heritage led regeneration ( www.heritagecity.org). Through a strategic vision and integrated action plan for Norwich’s heritage assets, HEART aims to co-ordinate management, conservation, education and promotion to increase public awareness, effective use and access and develop the local economy. The organisation’s “Great and Good” project was launched following a grant of almost £1 million from HM Treasury’s Invest to Save Fund and aims to develop 12 buildings within the city which collectively represent a millennium of urban development.
“We believe that we can improve our present through appropriate use of our material past,” said Michael Loveday, Chief Executive of Norwich HEART. “Norwich has the finest single collection, of any city in the UK, of individually outstanding heritage buildings, it is vital that we celebrate and embrace this. By engaging with the public, using media such as GeoPerspectives imagery, we can collectively promote these assets enforcing Norwich’s position as an internationally important showcase of urban and cultural development.”
The GeoPerspectives aerial photographs, purchased from aerial survey specialist BlueSky, form the centrepiece of the “Great and Good” project display. The imagery provides an up-to-date, birds eye view of buildings such as Norwich Castle, both the Anglican and Roman Catholic Cathedrals and Norwich City Hall. Complementing earlier images, including one of the first aerial photographs of the UK, the GeoPerspectives images were taken in 2006 and form part of a nationwide aerial survey.
GeoPerspectives is a joint venture between BlueSky and Infoterra providing national coverage of orthorectified aerial photography, digital terrain & surface models (DTM/DSM) for 3D modelling, and colour infra-red imagery (CIR) for vegetation analysis.
