The Madhya Pradesh state government plans to introduce special units to provide quick medical aid to people in the event of an emergency. The decision to set up what was termed comprehensive response units (CRU) was taken at a cabinet meeting recently. Ambulance services will also be expanded in phases using money obtained under the National Rural Health Mission.
The government will soon sign a memorandum of understanding with the Emergency Management and Research Institute, Hyderabad, for establishment of the CRUs. The project aims to provide emergency medical aid with the help of ambulances equipped with life saving drugs, equipments and trained staff including paramedics.
The ambulances would use GIS and GPS systems, which would help find the nearest ambulance and send it wherever required. In the first phase, 400 ambulances would be acquired by March 2008 and their number would increase to 700 by March 2009.
