Police may soon be able to track down criminals using satellite technology if research by experts shows positive results. State Police Chief Deputy Comm Datuk Hussin Ismail said the police were in talks with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia's School of Professional and Continuing Education on the possibility of using remote sensing satellite technology in investigations
“We are optimistic that using the technology will improve our method of combating crime,” he said.
The technology will enable police to observe high definition satellite footage of a crime scene from a distance of 3m via closed circuit television. DCP Hussin said the university was also working with police in studying methods to improve cooperation with the public, conducting research on crime prevention and preparing courses for community awareness on crime prevention.
