Resource map website in Sept, 2008

Natural Resources Data Management System (NRDMS) would launch a website in September, 2008 in which resource maps with all information would be available district-wise for the public, disclosed H Hemath Kumar of Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST).

Speaking at a workshop on NRDMS organised by Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department and KSCST at Zilla Parishad (ZP) premises, he said that social, economic and resource maps with all required data are available at NRDMS district centres and the new website with GIS technology would include line, point and area features of the region.

Maps prepared with the help of GIS and remote sensing would be provided to the district administration, ZP, government departments and NGOs for planning developmental works, he added. ZP chief executive officer Dr P Boregouda, who inaugurated the workshop, opined that the database should be accessible for the public at any moment and government officials should utilise it for effectively implementing the schemes.

Scientific resource mapping by NRDMS would help a lot in preparing action plans for development works and NRDMS Shimoga centre is the best in the state in resource mapping, he revealed.
