Swiss Map Derivatives automation

Axes Systems, provider of integrated and open topographic and cartographic technologies announced that it has received the mandate for the swisstopo (Swiss Federal Office of Topography) SysDab system of the strategic OPTINA-LK (optimization of national map updates) project. The project is a result of a worldwide WTO call-for-tender submitted by the Federal Office for Buildings and Logistics.

The strategic swisstopo OPTINA-LK project is designed to replace existing map production technology with a new and future-oriented GIS-based map production system for the creation, generalization, maintenance and updating of digital cartographic models. This system will provide for a new set up of the current national map production and consists of the Genius-DB (maintenance and editing) system and the SysDab system for automated generalization1.

Axes Systems automated GIS cartography solution ‘axpand’ best fulfilled the requirements of the WTO tender as listed in the requirements manual and offered the most economical solution. SysDab is a GIS-based system for automatic semantic, geometric and cartographic generalization of geo-data. SysDab will be used for extensive automatic derivation and incremental updating of digital cartographic models from digital landscape models2 or large scale digital cartographic landscape models.

The SysDab system will:

Import and export error-free topographic GIS data

# Carry out model transformation
# Carry out cartographic and geometric generalization of landscape and large scale digital cartographic models by taking visual models into account.
