NVision Solutions’ GIS Products Listed as Top 20 Spinoff Technologies by NASA’s Innovative Partnership Program Bay St. Louis, MS – NVision Solutions, Inc., a leading provider of geospatial solutions to the federal government and commercial organizations, is pleased to announce that a set of the company’s GIS applications has been listed as one of the top 20 NASA spinoff technologies produced over the past five years. The recognition by the NASA Innovative Partnerships Program is based on factors such as quality of life, economic benefit, and value back to NASA and is featured in Spinoff, NASA’s premier annual publication featuring successfully commercialized NASA technology.
Working with NASA’s Stennis Space Center in South Mississippi, NVision has harnessed NASA’s rich stores of remote sensing satellite data to provide a variety of innovative geospatial services and products. For farmers, NVision developed a crop prescription service; for local, state, and federal governments, NVision prototyped a computer system enhancing the ability of first-responders to react to natural disasters, homeland security threats, and other emergencies; and for young farmers, NVision created a GIS tutorial for precision agriculture that assists in educating and training America’s future farmers.
"NVision Solutions has been a very productive innovator in applying NASA data and technologies towards uses that assist our communities and potentially improve people lives,” said Dr. Ramona Travis, Innovative Partnerships Program Manager at NASA Stennis Space Center. “We are proud that their diligent efforts and dedicated partnering with the Stennis Space Center Innovative Partnerships Program have earned them this recognition as a Top 20 Spinoff Technology within the agency. Knowing them, we can expect that their continued work will lead to further accomplishments in the Geospatial Industry."
Because of these and other innovations, NVision Solutions has garnered a number of awards over the last several years including two NASA Tech Briefs Awards. In 2004, the company won the "Governor's Technology Innovator of the Year" award for the state of Louisiana. In 2005, NVision was selected as the “Small Business Innovator of the Year" in Mississippi. They were also chosen as ESRI's "2005 New Business Partner of the Year." In 2006, NVision was a Tibbetts Award Winner for exemplifying the very best in SBIR achievement. Additionally, Craig Harvey, Executive Vice President and CIO of NVision was honored as the 2006 Mississippi Small Business Person of the Year by the Small Business Administration.
"This honor is recognition of our passion for using geospatial technology to help the communities where we live and work," said Craig Harvey, a corporate founder of NVision Solutions. "It is also a reflection of the unique, cooperative environment at NASA's Stennis Space Center which fosters the technological innovation and partnerships that have allowed our company to grow."
For more than 40 years, NASA has facilitated the transfer of its technology to the private sector. NASA's Innovative Partnership Program aims to foster technology partnerships, commercialization, and innovation in support of NASA's overall mission and national priorities. Other successful products designed for NASA use and then commercialized have evolved in the fields of health and medicine, industry, consumer goods, computer technology, and environment.
