AutoCAD 2010: MapRelate 1.7, released

MapRelate is a complementary component for AutoCAD that allows users to gain instant and direct access to their local or corporately held spatial data from within their native AutoCAD environment. This means a user can combine or overlay their design accurately against detailed spatial data, improving design precision and providing a simple solution for architects, engineers and data administrators to meet legal and customer obligations.

MapRelate Version 1.7 is primarily focussed on supporting the AutoCAD 2010 series from Autodesk (in addition to the 2008 and 2009 versions). MapRelate now includes enhanced data support with direct GML and OS MasterMap reading and support for ESRI personal GeoDatabases. It also has a range of functionality updates including:

- Elevation from attribute support (for contours)

- MPolygon support (configuration and drawing)

- File-based configuration support

- Removed requirement for 'regedit' privileges

- TextAsLine positioning and optimisation fixes

- Text configuration editing fix

- Text layer name dropped suffix fix

- Initial authentication from CAD launch fix

- Editable data sources in configuration

- Identity management for de-duplication (Single Document Interface Mode only)

1Spatial addresses geospatial data integration issues at Autodesk University 2008

1Spatial is presenting a session in the Geospatial track at Autodesk University 2008 to highlight the geospatial data integration issues faced by organisations across the World today.

The class, entitled 'The Use of Autodesk FDO Data Access Technology in enabling CAD/GIS Convergence', will be presented by 1Spatial's Product and Marketing Director, Graham Stickler and Managing Consultant, Crispin Hoult. It takes place on Tuesday 2nd December at 8:00am, as part of the 5-day Autodesk event being held from 1st to 5th December in Las Vegas, USA.

Aimed at users interested in learning about the value of integrating geospatial data and CAD, the session will explore the practical use of Feature Data Object (FDO) Open Source software. It can be used as a means not only to build data bridges and integrate geospatial data, but also to facilitate the convergence of CAD and GIS data sources.

Vast amounts of geospatially-based data are available across organisations globally in both GIS and CAD, which represent a huge investment by their custodians. This situation is compounded by increasingly large flows of geospatial data appearing, as well as the advent of more advanced data collection techniques. Merging and sharing such datasets has become paramount with the realisation that real business value can be drawn through the reuse of this data. The rise in Web access is also resulting in an even greater demand to make these data available externally and also highlights the need for data integration. The class will address how Open Source Feature Data Object Data Access Technology enables the access and analysis of multiple native data formats without translation or duplication.

1Spatial is delighted to announce that PSMA Australia have purchased their Radius Studio product to provide data quality conformance services.

PSMA Australia Limited combines spatial data from Australia’s governments with leading-edge technology to create national spatial information datasets that include features such as roads, street addresses and cadastral and administrative boundaries. These datasets are then utilised by a network of partners who develop products and services that present the data in meaningful and useful ways for a wide range of industry, government and community uses that deliver economic, environmental and social benefits to the whole of Australia.

PSMA Australia receives data from multiple sources in multiple formats, from across Australia. The data is then integrated to produce datasets that provide seamless and consistent national coverage on a 90-day update cycle. Data quality forms a vital part of this procedure, and 1Spatial’s Radius Studio will provide an automated solution to ensuring a high level of data quality throughout the integration process.

Radius Studio provides automated conformance checking of spatial data against a pre-defined set of business rules certifying the quality of, firstly, the source data, and secondly, the integrated dataset, which will be delivered to the customer. The benefit of this rules-based approach is the assurance of the overall data quality and the automation enables increased efficiency and productivity, which ultimately leads to savings in resources.

In the longer term, Radius Studio will also form part of PSMA Australia’s LYNX infrastructure. LYNX will provide enhanced mechanisms to perform data integration and delivery between PSMA Australia and the various data providers (custodians) and their clients. The system will utilise the latest web technologies and architecture to enable PSMA Australia to:

* Obtain a broader market reach
* Increase value for the data custodians and their clients

The use of Radius Studio in this process will simplify the existing supply chain and increase the overall efficiency of the system.

1Spatial acquires ComSine: Strengthening Sensor Web capabilities

1Spatial, a leader in spatial data management, today announces the acquisition of ComSine, a privately owned SME specialising in IT consultancy and development for the telecommunications, navigation and geographic information industries, including satellite Earth observation.

ComSine’s leading edge intellectual property in the communications sector will enable 1Spatial to venture into the rapidly developing Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) marketplace. In line with the growing trend for pervasive computing, this burgeoning area of the geospatial data market sees the convergence of the telecommunications and geospatial industries, with a focus on the real-time capture and management of geospatial information into spatial data infrastructures.

One of ComSine’s most significant projects in this area was the recently completed contract with the British National Space Centre (BNSC) for its ICP2 SensorWeb Project, which saw the development of 'OSCAR' (OGC-compliant Sensor Control & Access Resource) - a prototype web services SWE software resource to support the easy integration of in-situ environmental sensors with online information systems.

Additionally, the acquisition of ComSine will support 1Spatial’s implementation of the recently won Ordnance Survey project, through the addition of complementary skills, whilst also adding proven expertise in winning and implementing European funded business.

With offices in Hampshire, UK and Victoria, Australia, ComSine has a portfolio of over 20 clients including the Ordnance Survey, QinetiQ, the European Space Agency, the Galileo Supervisory Authority, Anite Public Sector, the University of Nottingham and LogicaCMG.

ComSine’s established Australian base will facilitate the development of 1Spatial's emerging presence in the region. Many of ComSine's web services projects adhere to the Open Geospatial Consortium's web standards and have interoperability at their heart, which is completely consistent with 1Spatial's philosophy.

Richard Proud, Managing Director and Co-founder of ComSine is joining 1Spatial to head up a new specialist team in geospatial and telecommunications convergence.

The acquisition is expected to increase 1Spatial’s topline annual revenues by about £0.5m.
