Genie Pro automated feature extraction and search technology

Observera, Inc. is pleased to announce that it has licensed the Genie Pro automated feature extraction and search technology from Los Alamos National Security, LLC (LANS), which operates the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) for the Department of Energy.

GENIE Pro can be used to discover complex spatial-spectral signatures for a number of applications, such as automated feature detection, broad area search, land cover/land use classification and other types of automated or semi-automated image analysis. The license gives Observera exclusive use of the technology in Earth imaging, remote sensing, GIS, astronomical imaging, and underwater imaging. Observera’s CEO, Todd Jamison had this to say about the licensing agreement: "We are very excited about the opportunity to license the Genie Pro™ technology from LANL. We have a long history of working with the Intelligent Searching of Images and Signals (ISIS) Team at LANL and look forward to continuing our relationship with the great staff they have working there. The ISIS Team has developed a quality tool and we will see to it that it transitions into a successful commercial product.” The license will lead to a commercial software product by the summer of 2008 and the technology will also be available for sublicensing by qualified parties. About Genie Pro - Genie Pro™ is an adaptive automatic feature extraction (AFE) software tool that can be used in a wide range of applications. The software uses techniques from statistical machine learning theory and evolutionary computation theory – also known as genetic programming – to perform robust and customized AFE in multispectral, hyperspectral, panchromatic, and multi-instrument fused imagery. Genie Pro™ represents a significant technical advance beyond the simple image classification algorithms found in popular GIS and image processing packages. Genie Pro™ is able to distinguish between similar features that share similar spectral characteristics - for example, asphalt roads vs. asphalt roofs - by considering the combined spatial and spectral context of each pixel, which enables it to produce accurate map overlays for tasks that would defeat traditional spectral-only classification algorithms. These capabilities are particularly effective with today’s high-resolution airborne and satellite imagery.
