The Earth Systems Research Center, University of New Hampshire (UNH) has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate. The successful candidate will explore how water and heat stresses influence ecosystem functioning (photosynthesis, evapotranspiration, water use efficiency), carbon cycling, and/or plant mortality (e.g., tree mortality) for various ecosystem types over broad regions using observations from new generation satellites (e.g., ECOSTRESS, OCO-3, geostationary satellites), in-situ measurements, and machine learning/modeling. This position is funded by NASA and NSF and can be renewed annually depending on satisfactory performance.
A Ph.D. in areas such as ecology, remote sensing, atmospheric sciences/meteorology, biogeosciences, forestry/natural resources, environmental science, or a related field is required. Applicants should be enthusiastic, creative, and highly motivated. Ideal candidates should have one or more of the following experiences: satellite remote sensing, processing of large data sets, machine learning, Earth system modeling, and synthesis of in-situ observations. Strong communication, writing, and programming skills and publication record are highly desirable.
Please submit a cover letter, CV, and the names and contact information of three references to Dr. Jingfeng Xiao (j.xiao@unh.edu) via email with the subject line “Application for postdoc position in ECOSTRESS and OCO-3”. Review of applications will begin on March 25, 2022 and continue until the position is filled.
The position offers a competitive salary and full benefits. The successful candidate will join a research team at the Earth Systems Research Center, a world-class research center in Earth system science. UNH is a Research-I, Land, Sea and Space Grant University that has been recognized both nationally and internationally for research excellence in ecology, environmental science, geoscience and forestry. Located in the Seacoast region of New Hampshire, members of UNH enjoy the high quality of life and beautiful natural surroundings the region provides.
