LaserGIS Software Extension for ArcPad

LTI's LaserGIS is a software extension for ArcPad that expedites the process of setting up and storing the laser's measurements with fewer steps and more flexibility for the user. Built on ArcPad's current platform, the software enhancement makes it an easy addition for current users as the workflow is the same except the new LaserGIS toolbar makes collecting data quicker and easier.

Using LTI lasers for GIS data collection increases your productivity because the need to physically occupy the locations you have to record is eliminated. That's great, but your laser needs to work seamlessly within your GIS software. LaserGIS is the first robust software extension that significantly enhances ArcPad®’s current laser offset functionality.

No extensive training needed and increased field productivity translates into saving time (which as we all know also means saving money) LTI's LaserGIS for ArcPad® is a must have for GIS data collection.

LaserGIS for ArcPad - Released

Laser Technology, Inc (LTI) just announced the release of LaserGIS for ArcPad. This new software extension truly maximizes field work productivity because it complements the current ArcPad platform and workflow, and significantly enhances its laser measurement capabilities.

Integrating lasers with GPS to remotely position features is becoming increasingly popular in the GIS industry because of the mere fact that you do not need to physically occupy the feature you want to map. LaserGIS allows you to easily record laser offset data with any GPS or by using existing features or coordinates on an ArcPad map. The software also has a "Quick Traverse" routine which allows you to easily map in a large polygon. Once completed, you can determine the percent error of closure on the traverse and calculate the perimeter distance and area contained within the boundary.

Collecting and recording attribute data within your GIS has never been faster. LaserGIS automatically imports your height measurements, as well as any other measurement from the laser, right into your data attribute forms. To take it a step further, you can even refer to the trace file that automatically logs all the raw data for every laser shot you take.

“This is the first time any field data collection software has ever been able to ‘catch up’ to all the full capabilities found in our TruPulse 360 compass laser,” says Paul Adkins, Marketing Communications Manager of Laser Technology. “Using a laser to collect field data can certainly save you time, but it still has to work seamlessly with GIS software to be truly beneficial to this market.”

Connecting your LTI laser to ArcPad and configuring your options can now be done quickly within LaserGIS. Toggling on the "Rapid Fire" mode will allow you to map and record multiple targets without ever touching the screen. Automatically apply Declination settings based on your map or GPS location simply by checking a box within the set up menu. Make a quicker connection, take fewer steps and have more flexibility than ever before with LaserGIS for ArcPad. This is a true integration between lasers and GIS.

GPSDifferential for ESRI ArcPad 8

Magellan Professional is introducing GPS Differential for ESRI ArcPad 8, a post-processing software extension for the MobileMapper 6 with ArcPad 8 mapping application. The GPSDifferential for ArcPad 8 enables the MobileMapper 6 GIS/GPS handheld receiver users to achieve outstanding sub-meter accuracy for GIS data collection and mapping at low cost.

GPSDifferential for ArcPad 8 software extension automatically logs the raw data that is required for reliable sub-meter post-processed differential corrections, even where real-time corrections are not available. The raw data file stored by this software extension can be post-processed using MobileMapper 6 Office, which is included in the GPSDifferential for ArcPad 8 offer. Post-processed data is exported with attributes in shapefile standard format.

Mobile Mapper 6, a state-of-the-art rugged GPS device providing sub-meter post-processed accuracy for GIS data collection and mapping, has a unique position and performance in the market. MobileMapper 6 is particularly appealing to forestry and other natural resource organisations, oil and gas, agriculture, utilities, government agencies, and businesses large and small that need a highly-rugged, easy-to-use mobile GIS device at low cost, but which can also deliver sub-meter accuracy.

ArcPad 8, mobile GIS software now available

ArcPad 8, ESRI's mobile GIS software for field mapping and data collection is now available. The new release claimed to have new usability and performance enhancements, includes the ability to synchronize edits with ArcGIS Server. Any device that can connect to the Internet (e.g., cradle, USB, Wi-Fi, or phone connection) can synchronize ArcPad edits directly with the enterprise geodatabase via ArcGIS Server. Field staff can now share data faster and save time by no longer needing to return to the office to update their GIS database.

ArcPad 8 includes a new user interface. New icons and toolbars occupy less screen real estate than in previous versions. Toolbars can be docked, minimized, and maximised, and users can either modify the out-of-the-box toolbars or create their own with a new desktop tool called ArcPad Toolbar Manager.

The GPS user interface also gets an overhaul in ArcPad 8. The GPS position dialogue box has been replaced by a translucent toolbar that appears at the bottom of the map screen. It shows much of the same detail as the previous position dialog box but now uses colored visual cues to indicate the quality of the GPS fix.

ArcPad Studio, the development framework for customizing ArcPad, is now included with every ArcPad license rather than being sold separately. Combining the customization tools with ArcPad will help users modify ArcPad for their specific application requirements and encourage more deployments within their organizations.
