The annual Climate Prediction Applications Science Workshop (CPASW), initiated in 2002 by the NOAA National Weather Service Climate Services Division, brings together a diverse group of climate researchers, climate product producers, and climate information users to share developments in research and applications of climate predictions for societal decision-making. A unique planning team, consisting of several NOAA climate services partners, organizes and hosts CPASW at a different location each year to ensure varying climate application focuses, and both regional and national perspectives.

The 13th Annual CPASW will bring together climate researchers, information producers, and users to share developments in research and applications of climate predictions for societal decision-making. The 2015 CPASW will be hosted by the New Mexico State University and the USDA Southwest Climate Hub and co-hosted by the NOAA National Weather Service Climate Services Division. Please see full list of organizers as several agencies help to organize the workshop logistics and agenda. From March 24-26, 2015, the 13th Annual CPASW will convene in Las Cruces, New Mexico, at the New Mexico State University, with a workshop theme of "Climate and Drought Information for Food Resilience, Agriculture, and Water Resources." This theme will integrate broad national, international, and global aspects of climate and drought information applications in various decisions related to food resilience including agriculture, ranching, food processing, water availability and water rights, among others. Climate is a cross-cutting concern for all of these areas and provides a link for critical decisions in building resilient communities such as planning, allocating resources, sustaining development and management, as well as preserving livestock, cropland, and rangelands. Special emphasis will be given to climate and drought information systems in support of the President's Climate Action Plan and the White House Climate Data Initiative, including the Climate Resilience Toolkit. Additionally, the 2015 CPASW will foster the coordination of climate services provided by government agencies, research institutions, and private enterprises, as well as build partnerships with professional societies to expand and sustain climate services development.

The Workshop format will include a combination of symposium-style sessions and breakout discussions that address the workshop theme. We invite abstracts that address the use of climate data, monitoring, predictions and projections in all of the focus areas listed above. We also invite papers on specific decisions and challenges associated with using seasonal climate predictions; heat, drought, and other climatic extreme products; and best practices in climate information use and communication.

Fuze Go Plugin for ENVI to be Unveiled at Esri User Conference

Scene Sharp USA will formally introduce the Fuze Go Plugin for ENVI this week at the Esri User Conference in San Diego. The plugin gives ENVI software users access to Fuze Go MS Sharp, an automated multispectral image fusion software which can simultaneously fuse up to 30 spectral bands of data from inside the popular ENVI geospatial processing package.

“The Exelis ENVI software is widely known for its multi- and hyperspectral image processing capabilities and is an ideal platform for geospatial information users to access the automated Fuze Go MS Sharp image fusion software,” said Ian Lucas, President and CEO of Scene Sharp Technologies Incorporated™.

Scene Sharp will demonstrate the Fuze Go plugin for ENVI along with the full line of Fuze Go software products in booth #410 at the Esri User Conference being held July 14-18 in San Diego.

The plugin gives users the option of accessing the Fuze Go MS Sharp software either within the ENVI workflow or outside of it so that fusion can be performed as a stand-alone application. This frees up the ENVI software license for other image processing activities. No GIS or image processing experience is needed to utilize the Fuze Go tools.

Fuze Go is a fully automated technology that enables users to quickly and easily fuse data sets to add color to non-colorized satellite and aerial imagery with just a few mouse clicks. One of its most common applications is pan-sharpening. By colorizing image data, GIS users can visualize and extract richer information content from remotely sensed data to make better informed decisions.

Also at the 2014 Esri UC, Scene Sharp USA will demonstrate the powerful processing capabilities in its Fuze Go SAR Sharp application, which was designed for more effective exploitation of data captured by satellite-based synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sensors. Fuze Go SAR Sharp fuses gray-scale radar data with optical multispectral bands to colorize the SAR data set. An industry first is the “Dynamic Reader” which allows pre-process on the fly viewing of SAR imagery with real time adjustment of color intensity being added to the scene.

Fuze Go MS Sharp and SAR Sharp are available for purchase for an annual license fee. Batch processing versions of the software packages are also offered to perform automatic fusion of multiple optical or SAR scenes.

2014 Caribbean GIS Conference - Call for Presentation Proposals

URISA is now accepting presentation proposals for its Seventh Caribbean GIS Conference, taking place October 27-30, 2014 in Curacao. Submissions are due by May 5, 2014.

Since 2001, URISA has presented successful conferences focused on the effective application and management of GIS and other information technologies within the Caribbean. Previous conferences have taken place in Jamaica (2001), Barbados (2004), the Bahamas (2006), Cayman Islands (2008), Trinidad and Tobago (2010) and Jamaica (2012). We are pleased to host the 2014 conference in the Dutch Caribbean!

Objectives of URISA's 2014 Caribbean GIS Conference:

To inform broad cross-section of Caribbean users about GIS technology and applications
To share experiences regarding GIS implementation and management issues
To establish new relationships with the vendor/consultant community

2014 International LiDAR Mapping Forum (ILMF) Full Program

The International LiDAR Mapping Forum (ILMF), taking place from February 17-19, 2014 in Denver, Colorado, has launched a dynamic conference program for its 2014 event. With world-leading experts presenting the latest advances in LiDAR, the conference will place delegates one step ahead with knowledge of up-to-the-minute research and commercial developments.The ILMF conference program reflects a market that is flourishing. International LiDAR Mapping Forum Call for Papers

SPAR Point Group, organizer of the International LiDAR Mapping Forum (ILMF), which will take place February 17-19, 2014 in Denver, Colorado, USA, announced a Call for Papers and invites any interested parties to submit abstracts by September 20, 2013 using the online submission form. The International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ISPRS) Working Group on Health of Commission VIII (ISPRS WG VIII/2) is organizing its 2nd Symposium on Advances in Geospatial Technologies for Health in collaboration with the 5th International Conference on Medical Geology (MEDGEO 2013) scheduled for August 24-30, 2013 in Arlington, Virginia, USA.

The goals of this symposium are to bridge the geospatial science, Earth science and health science communities and to explore interdisciplinary collaborations to improve our overall health and well-being.

The symposium topics will include applications of remote sensing and geospatial technologies in the areas of:

•Air Pollution Modeling for Health Impact Studies

•Air-borne, Soil-borne and Water-borne Diseases

•Big-Data Analysis in Public Health Research

•Environmental Public Health Surveillance

•Infectious and Vector-borne Diseases

•Climate Variability and Health

•Tele-Epidemiology

•Healthcare

In addition to technical sessions, the event will include workshops and short courses on geospatial technologies and environmental health geared toward young professionals. Notable speakers include Dr. James Acker and Dr. Radina Soebiyanto from NASA; and Prof. Stan Morian from the Earth Data Analysis Center (EDAC).

Keynote lectures will include speakers from the American, French, and Japanese space agencies, giving participants a chance to hear about the advances in public health research made by national space programs. Other keynotes will include speakers from the Group on Earth Observations (GEO), Esri, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Medicaid, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA)and Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP).

The symposium will offer a special opportunity for students presenting work related to the geospatial technology and health. NASA has funded a grant to support a few travel fellowships for students to present papers at the symposium. Application forms and the announcement are available on the symposium website.

The joint event of ISPRS Symposium and MEDGEO-2013 conference is being managed by the Geological Society of America (GSA).
