ERDAS IMAGINE 11.0.5 Software Now Available

Intergraph is proud to announce a new minor release of ERDAS IMAGINE, now available to all customers with ERDAS 2011 software. Users can download ERDAS IMAGINE 11.0.5 from the product webpage. This release includes changes from all previous service packs released for ERDAS IMAGINE 2011.

ERDAS IMAGINE is a leading geospatial data authoring system, incorporating geospatial image processing and analysis and remote sensing into a single powerful, convenient package. ERDAS IMAGINE enables users to easily create value-added products such as 2D and 3D images, 3D flythrough movies and cartographic-quality map compositions from geospatial data. Intergraph has paired GeoMedia® and ERDAS IMAGINE to deliver a comprehensive suite of image processing coupled with GIS analysis and data management capabilities. GeoMedia is a powerful GIS data management and analysis package that enables users to realize the maximum value of their geospatial resources.

Enhancements since the release of ERDAS IMAGINE 2011 include more Live Link connections between ERDAS IMAGINE and GeoMedia, providing truly connected image processing and GIS products. Brought together by a single organization, users can easily leverage these two products in unison to construct a larger, clearer geospatial picture. Specifically, the Live Link changes enable users to:

- Connect the GeoMedia Map Window and ERDAS IMAGINE Viewer
- Natively read GeoMedia Warehouse files in ERDAS IMAGINE
- Write to GeoMedia Warehouse Attributes in the ERDAS IMAGINE spatial modeler
- Export GeoMedia Warehouses to shapefiles
- Import shapefiles to GeoMedia Warehouses

Users can also take advantage of other enhancements, including the cloud remover in MosaicPro, a tool for creating seamless image mosaics. Users can now quickly and easily remove clouds from their image mosaics by digitizing cloud areas and manually adjusting the radiometry of individual images. MosaicPro now also allows users to use batch and distributed processing when outputting image tiles. In addition, this release provides support for new sensor models, including the VisionMap A3 aerial sensor and the Pleiades satellite constellation. ERDAS IMAGINE's classification capabilities are also strengthened in this release by offering new options for supervised classification, spectral angle mapping and spectral correlation mapping.

Connecting GeoMedia and ERDAS IMAGINE

Intergraph Corporation announces the availability of Live Link, connecting GeoMedia and ERDAS IMAGINE. For the first time, users can leverage GeoMedia's rich set of vector handling tools and ERDAS IMAGINE's raster capabilities to support synchronized data sharing, viewing, editing, updating, and analysis.

ERDAS APOLLO Manages Space Data

ERDAS announces that the Italian Space Agency (ASI) is using ERDAS APOLLO to manage data collected from different space missions and deliver it for public consumption via a web portal.

ASI is collaborating with the ESA and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on the Cassini-Huygens, Mars Express, and Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) missions. The Cassini-Huygens mission primarily focuses on two of Saturn’s moons, Titan and Enceladus, as well as Saturn itself. So far, the mission has found evidence of heat and organic chemicals and the possibility of liquid water on the surface of Enceladus, indicating the potential for the formation of primitive life forms. Cassini, the orbiter component of Cassini-Huygens, carries 12 instruments which have returned a daily stream of data since arriving at Saturn in 2004. Huygens, the smaller probe portion of Cassini-Huygens, landed on Titan’s surface in 2005 and returns data about Titan’s vast methane lakes and hydrocarbon sand dunes.

The primary objective of the Mars Express mission is to investigate the basic characteristics of Mars. The Mars Express orbiter will create high-resolution imagery (10 meters/pixel) of the entire Martian surface and super resolution imagery (2 meters/pixel) of selected areas. It will also produce a map of the mineral composition of the surface at 100 meter resolution, map the composition of the atmosphere and determine its global circulation, determine the structure of the sub-surface to a depth of a few kilometers, determine the effect of the atmosphere on the planetary surface, and determine how the atmosphere interacts with the solar wind. Mars Express spends a portion of its orbit facing Mars to collect data, and the other part facing the Earth to transmit data back to ground stations. Every day, the ground stations receive between 0.5 and 5 Gbits of scientific data from Mars Express.

The main objective of the MRO mission is to investigate the presence of water on Mars. Other Mars missions have shown that water existed on Mars’ surface in the past, but scientists still don’t know whether water was around long enough to foster development of life. MRO is taking close-up photographs of the Martian surface, analyzing minerals, searching for subsurface water, measuring the dust and water content of the atmosphere, and monitoring daily weather conditions.

The Future of Spatial Analysis Through Intergraph and ERDAS

With Hexagon 2011 under way, ERDAS and Intergraph are detailing their plans to leverage their combined strengths in raster and vector processing through a new spatial modeling framework. At the Hexagon 2011 Conference, this technology is being showcased in the TechExpo Hall, as well as through various breakout sessions and keynotes. The new spatial modeling framework catapults each organization's existing geospatial strengths, providing a model for future integrated technological developments.

The new spatial modeling framework is based on the strong raster analysis capabilities of ERDAS IMAGINE® and the powerful vector analysis capabilities of Intergraph® GeoMedia®. Integrated within a new graphical user interface and extensible through third-party scripting environments, the next-generation spatial modeling solution will support desktop and on-demand enterprise geo-processing. This technology will also enable users in a broad variety of disciplines, such as agriculture management, disaster recovery, civil engineering, property assessment, and others, to create spatial analysis and processing programs within a command-line environment, simultaneously leveraging GeoMedia's powerful vector handling capabilities and ERDAS IMAGINE's raster prowess.

ERDAS Releases ECW for ArcGIS Server

ERDAS proudly announces the introduction of the all-new ECW for ArcGIS Server, which provides a means for ArcGIS Server 10 to deliver Enhanced Compression Wavelet (ECW) data to clients via OGC-compliant Web Coverage Service (WCS) and Web Map Service (WMS).

Using components of the ERDAS ECW/JP2 SDK version 4.2, ECW for ArcGIS Server enables ArcGIS Server to support ECW imagery, providing the fastest decompression available. Using minimal memory, ECW can quickly decompress and open massive files, in many cases faster than uncompressed imagery can be opened. Additionally, multi-resolution level of detail is built into the file, eliminating the need to generate or distribute pyramids or overviews. The ECW technique does not require that immediate tiles (RRDs) be calculated and stored on disk; they are an inherent part of ECW’s Discrete Wavelet Transformations (DWT). ECW also supports opacity channels, allowing images to overlay other imagery cleanly without showing compression artifacts around the edges.

The ERDAS ECW/JP2 SDK technology was developed by ER Mapper Ltd beginning in 1998 and is governed by three patents (US6201897, US6442298, and US6633688).

ECW for ArcGIS Server may be installed on a single ArcGIS Server, with or without other ERDAS software installed. However, ECW for ArcGIS Server does require a FlexNet license file from ERDAS.

This new product expands the industry-wide level of support for the ECW format. ECW is already supported in traditional desktop GIS, CAD and remote sensing packages such as ArcGIS, AutoCAD, ERDAS IMAGINE, ERDAS ER Mapper, FalconView, Bentley Microstation, ENVI and PCI Geomatica.

ERDAS 11 World Tour in Middle East

ERDAS will team with GeoSystems Group for Information Technology in Saudi Arabia to host a series of 11 World Tour events in the Middle East.

The first event will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on March 7th in conjunction with the Saudi Arabian national science agency, the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST). On March 8th, the tour moves to Muscat, Oman with an event at the Theater Hall of Waljat College of Applied Sciences. The final event will take place on March 9th at the Holiday Inn Abu Dhabi Hotel in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

ERDAS 11 World Tour in India

ERDAS announces the launch of the 11 World Tour in the Asia Pacific region, hosting a customer event with over 400 participants in Hyderabad, India. As a corporate sponsor of the Geospatial World Forum, ERDAS hosted this event on January 17. The conference is being held January 18-21, 2011 at the Hyderabad Convention Centre.

Download LPS 2011 on ERDAS Website

ERDAS proudly announces the official release of LPS 2011, now available for download on the ERDAS website.

LPS is a powerful, workflow-oriented photogrammetry system for production mapping, including full analytical triangulation, the generation of digital terrain models, orthophoto production, mosaicking, and 3D feature extraction.

It supports panchromatic, color and multispectral imagery with up to 16 bits per band and hundreds of different coordinate systems and map projections. LPS increases accuracy through state-of-the-art photogrammetric and image processing algorithms for automatic point measurement, triangulation, automatic terrain extraction and subpixel point positioning. Accuracy reports, built-in data quality checks, and editing tools make it easy to maintain unwavering levels of quality.

A key theme for LPS 2011 is the optimization of productivity and efficiency. Many of these gains are accomplished through distributed processing, which enables users to leverage multi-core CPUs and multiple networked servers to increase production throughput and accelerate processes like ortho generation. LPS 2011 combines its existing batch processing capabilities with Condor (third-party software available for free download) to harness the power of several networked computers for high throughput ortho generation.

LPS eATE is an add-on module for LPS that derives dense point clouds from stereo imagery. For this release, LPS eATE adds the ability to distribute the Digital Terrain Model (DTM) merging process to the existing ability to distribute terrain extraction, further reducing overall processing time.

LPS 2011 also provides gains in efficiency. Users can now generate orthophotos for an area of interest defined by a shapefile or AOI, excluding unnecessary pixels from processing and reducing the time and resources required for the ortho production process. Additionally, the Stereo Point Measurement (SPM) Tool now supports the use of multiple orthophotos (base maps) as a horizontal reference source of ground control points. Orthophotos are conveniently shown in the image list based on the degree of overlap with the master image and users can easily identify reference points in stereo and mono modes.

New ERDAS IMAGINE Software Announced

ERDAS announced its upcoming 2011 Software Release, with new versions of ERDAS IMAGINE, LPS, ERDAS Extensions for ArcGIS 10, ERDAS APOLLO and other leading desktop and server products. To promote this significant release, ERDAS is also launching a world tour with customer events worldwide.

ERDAS APOLLO Feature Interoperability - Released

ERDAS announces the release of ERDAS APOLLO Feature Interoperability, a new product extending ERDAS APOLLO’s native vector support by adding support for additional CAD and GIS formats and tools. IMAGINE Feature Interoperability was released in late 2009, adding similar support to ERDAS IMAGINE users.

ERDAS APOLLO Feature Interoperability provides access to GIS data formats, including a DGN Connector to ERDAS APOLLO that enables direct access to MicroStation’s DGN v7 and v8 format files via web services. The module is powered by Safe Software’s FME technology, which provides direct read and write support to a large and expanding number of vector feature formats.

ERDAS IMAGINE 2010 Training in Europe

ERDAS announces new training courses for ERDAS IMAGINE 2010 in Liège, Belgium. The first course will be held on January 26-27, 2010, with reservations being accepted via www.erdas.com/training.

ERDAS IMAGINE 2010 is an all in one, fully integrated desktop authoring platform, incorporating image analysis, remote sensing and GIS capabilities. Featuring a new ribbon interface, ERDAS IMAGINE makes it easier for users to streamline workflows and customize their workspace. ERDAS IMAGINE also provides enhanced tools for parallel batch processing, spatial modeling, map production, mosaicking and change detection. ERDAS ADE 2010 Released

ERDAS released ERDAS ADE 2010. It is an integrated suite of products for real-time editing of spatial and business data via the web, desktop or mobile device. Integrated with the Oracle technology stack, this suite of products includes ERDAS ADE Remote, ERDAS ADE Mobile and ERDAS ADE Enterprise.

ERDAS announces the release of IMAGINE Feature Interoperability, a new product extending ERDAS IMAGINE’s native vector support by adding support for additional CAD and GIS formats and tools.

IMAGINE Feature Interoperability offers direct support of the DGN format in ERDAS IMAGINE. Powered by Safe Software’s FME technology, IMAGINE Feature Interoperability provides direct read and write support to an ever expanding number of vector feature formats, starting with MicroStation’s DGN v7 and v8 format files. ERDAS - LPS eATE - New terrain processing solution

ERDAS announced the technology preview of LPS eATE. It is a new module for generating high-resolution terrain information from stereo imagery. This technology preview provides a sample of the new ERDAS terrain processing solution. ERDAS eATE will be formally released in 2010.

It is an add-on module to LPS, an integrated suite of workflow-oriented photogrammetry software tools for production mapping, including the generation of digital terrain models, orthophoto production and 3D feature extraction. Automating precision measurement, maintaining accuracy and including flexible operations such as image mosaicking, LPS increases productivity while ensuring high accuracy.

LPS eATE is an ideal solution for both small and large terrain generation jobs. It utilises the power of multi-core computer systems and supports parallel processing across a networked group of computers. Providing an unparalleled environment for processing terrain data, LPS eATE can handle a wide range of data input, from satellite to airborne frame to digital pushbroom sensor. With modern airborne and satellite sensors achieving increasingly higher resolutions, LPS eATE maximises this image resolution and generates high-density results.

LPS eATE supports the ability to visualise imagery in 3D by associating RGB values with terrain points in a LAS file. It includes tools for producing LAS point clouds. The output point clouds can be classified and automatically filtered to remove undesired objects as an integrated part of the eATE process.

ERDAS LPS 2010 - Photogrammetry System Released

ERDAS released LPS 2010. LPS Core now includes ERDAS MosaicPro (as well as IMAGINE Advantage). In addition, this release provides improved sensor support and increased performance. LPS is a powerful softcopy photogrammetry system for a variety of workflows, defence, remote-area mapping, transportation planning, orthophoto production and close-range applications. With automated algorithms, fast processing and a tight focus on workflow, LPS ensures productivity.

By adding ERDAS MosaicPro to LPS 2010, customers will have decreased memory use and greater processing speed, making it easier to mosaic a large number of images. As part of the streamlining of mosaicking across the product lines, it includes the merged functionality of the IMAGINE Mosaic Tool. In addition, there is a new illumination equalisation colour balancing method.

LPS 2010 is compatible in data processing from a wide variety of sensors. It is compatible for GeoEye and WorldView rigorous models from multiple formats, including NCDRD. There is the support for KOMPSAT RPC and RapidEye NITF RPC as well.

Other performance improvements include accelerated vertical datum handling when using large DEMs in ortho-resampling and calibration, as well as better memory handling in the Terrain Prep tool. The Terrain Editor has received several productivity enhancing interface changes. ERDAS has also added grid correction for modelling focal plane distortions in ORIMA. The computed grid can be imported to LPS.

For approved customers, LPS eATE preview provides an advance look at the new ERDAS terrain processing solution. It enables users to generate high-resolution terrain information from stereo imagery like never before, ensuring speed and accuracy, providing an unparalleled environment for processing terrain data from airborne and satellite sensors. This solution is currently planned for general release in early 2010.
