The Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Utah has a Postdoctoral Scholar position available to join our research team focused on understanding the carbon cycle of mountainous regions of the Western U.S., as part of a NASA-funded Carbon Monitoring System project. The research team includes researchers from the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Utah, Caltech, the National Center for Atmospheric Research, and the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Key research tools include satellite-observed solar-induced fluorescence (SIF), the Community Land Model (CLM), and the Data Assimilation Research Testbed (DART). from the University of Utah. Qualifications A
Ph.D. in the geosciences or related fields (atmospheric sciences,
biology, ecology, forestry, environmental sciences, chemistry,
statistics, data sciences, computer sciences, engineering or other STEM
field) is required at the time of hire. The successful candidate should
have a demonstrated ability to carry out computer modeling, conduct data
analyses, and communicate results in peer-reviewed literature and
presentations. Responsibilities for this position include: - Analyses of satellite and ground-based observations - Data assimilation of aforementioned observations with the Community Land Model (CLM) - Critical evaluation of model output - Communicate results in peer-reviewed literature, in conference presentations, and to stakeholders. The
position will be funded for one year from the date of hire with a
second year of funding contingent on performance. The position will be
available beginning August 1, 2022 and will remain open until filled.
Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Minimum Qualifications Experience
with carbon cycle or land surface modeling and computer programming in a
Linux or UNIX environment (R or Python, shell scripts, Fortran) is
strongly desired. Additional Information The
